DPS Chandigarh proudly hosted Zonal Inter DPS Cultural Festival on Tuesday, 9th November, 2010. Various teams from the North Zone I & II participated in the event.
Mr. D.S. Saroya, Director, NZCC was the guest of honour. He appreciated the efforts of DPS schools to go beyond classroom learning and emphasize on all round development. Mr. Kanwar Iqbal, HOD, Music Deptt., Govt. College, Sector 46, Chandigarh was also the guest of honour. He was full of praise for all the performances and lauded all the participants for their efforts.
The competitions were adjudged by renowned personalities from the field of music and dance like Ms. Ratnika Tewari, Mr. Anil Kumar Sharma, Mr. R.S. Sham, Mr. Puneet Jewandah and Mr. Bandeep Rekhi.
The evening was a blend of music and rhythm. The first event was Zonal Inter DPS Vocal Music Competition which included solo and group singing. Participants presented one of the following – a Geet or a Ghazal or a Bhajan based on semi-classical Indian music while group singing was on any one of the genres : Sufi Qalam or Holi or Sawan song.
The second event of the day was the Zonal Inter DPS International Folk Dance Competition wherein the participating schools presented a folk dance representing a particular nationality or culture.
The Principal of DPS Chandigarh, Mrs. Reema Dewan welcomed the honoured guests, all dignitaries present and the various participating teams. She said that education provided at DPS Chandigarh is holistic and child centric, interwoven with co-curricular activities.
All teams attired in colourful costumes gave scintillating performances. DPS Chandigarh was adjudged the winner and DPS Jammu bagged the second position in Inter DPS Vocal Music Competition.
The winners of Inter-DPS International Folk Dance Competition were :-
- 1st – DPS Chandigarh
- 2nd – DPS Katra
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks followed by Prize Distribution Ceremony.
