The National Inter-DPS Tennis Tournament (Girls Open) 2012 was inaugurated by Shri Ashok Chandra, Chairman, DPS Society amidst much fanfare.
The four day tennis meet to be held from 22nd – 25th August, 2012 kick started with a dazzling inaugural ceremony which was marked by the presence of the Mr. R.J. Khanderao, Regional Officer, CBSE, Panchkula, the school Directors – Mr. Amit Bansal, Mr. Anup Soni, and other dignitaries from the sports fraternity and Principals of some of the leading schools of Chandigarh.
The school Principal Mrs. Reema Dewan welcomed the Chief Guest and the dignitaries. In her address she expressed her pride in hosting the event at the National level. She also said that such meets are essential for strengthening the bonds between the DPS fraternity and for all round development of the dipsites.
The inaugural ceremony was a kaleidoscope of dances, songs, orchestra and inspirational poetry.
The Chief Guest Sh. Ashok Chandra, Chairman, DPS Society administered the oath to all the participating teams. In his address, he congratulated DPS Chandigarh for its achievements and excellence in all spheres. Sir, also said that the main focus of Delhi Public Schools is to mould their students into becoming good human beings and exceptional leaders who will not only lead their country but also the world. He met all the participating teams personally and wished them luck.
The proud host emerged as Winners, DPS Navi Mumbai as 1st Runner-up and DPS, Megacity, Kolkatta as the 2nd Runner-up. The four day event brought forth the true spirit and sportsmanship of DIPsites. All the participating teams strived for excellence with courage and determination. The days of exciting action culminated into exuberance and joyfulness.
The valedictory function was a colourful event. The audience were enthralled with energetic dances, inspirational song, soulful poetry rendition and rhythmic beats of the school band.
The Principal Ms. Reema Dewan welcomed the distinguished guests, Principal of the Partner School in Germany , Mr. Wolfgang and his wife Ms. Stefanie, Mr. Pawan Kapoor, Director, Total Tennis Academy and Principals of eminent schools in Chandigarh.
In her address she said, “In keeping with the spirit of DPS Society, this event has proven that excellence is the watch word of the DPS fraternity.” She thanked all participating schools for making the event a grand success.
Amidst palpable excitement the winners were applauded and were awarded Medals, Trophies and Certificates. Charvi Saxena of DPS Chandigarh was declared the ‘Player of the Tournament’ while Megha Roy of DPS Megacity, Kolkatta was declared ‘The Most Promising Player’ of the tournament.
