DPS Chandigarh hosted the Fourth Annual Inter- DPS Dance Festival ‘NRITYANJALI 2012’ on July 28th in the school auditorium.
The dance competition featured ten dance teams from North Zone – 1. The participating teams presented Indian Tribal /Folk Dance depicting the tradition and folk dance of the region.
Guru Shobha Koser, internationally acclaimed Kathak exponent and Mr.Anil Kumar Gupta, IRS Commissioner, Central Excise and Service Tax graced the occasion as Guests of Honour.
The competition was adjudged by eminent personalities from the field of dance Ms. Suchitra Mitra, a renowned Bharat Natyam danseuse, Dr. Jaswinder Kaur, HOD Dance, Govt. College for Girls, Sector 42, Chandigarh and Dr. Sameera Koser, a noted exponent of Kathak.
The programme started with the ceremonial lighting of the lamp. The honoured guests, participating teams were given a warm welcome by the Principal, Mrs. Reema Dewan.
The whole event showcased the regional diversity of our great country. The audience thoroughly enjoyed the breath taking performances. All the dances earned a thundering applause but the tribal dances of Chattisgarh and Tripura presented by DPS Chandigarh and DPS Rewari respectively stole the show with their perfectly coordinated steps, balance, costumes and choreography. The whole show was indeed mesmerizing.
DPS Rewari was adjudged the winner while DPS Chandigarh bagged the first position hereby qualifying for the National Level event to be held in October 2012.
The dance extravaganza came to a close with vote of thanks and the prize distribution ceremony.
