In order to spread awareness about the invaluable benefits of yoga, International Yoga Day is observed every year on June 21st. Delhi Public School, Chandigarh on the directions of The Department of School Education and Literacy and the Ministry of Education, Government of India organized the International Yoga Day celebrations in our ‘City Beautiful’, which was incidentally also one of the 75 iconic sites chosen for it from across India.
The theme of celebration of the 8th edition of the International Day of Yoga (IDY) 2022 across the globe is ‘Yoga for Humanity’.
Keeping in mind the unflinching aims of transformational reforms, the event was organized at the Leisure Valley by DPS Chandigarh. Around 300 students from 33 private as well as government schools from across the city along with the teaching and non-teaching staff attended it with great enthusiasm and eagerness. The session began with a motivational song and a dance presentation followed by warming up, stretching and a series of asanas.
In her address Mrs. Reema Dewan encouraged the participants and emphasized the need and importance of yoga in daily life. She said that the essence of yoga is balance, not only of the body but also the mind and the spirit, and teaches humans to be mindful and also reflects the power of moderation, discipline, and perseverance. She urged all to follow yoga and meditation for a peaceful and healthy life and added that the Yoga Day has become one of the biggest mass movements in the quest for good health and well-being. She thanked the participants, students and the faculty for making the event immensely successful.
