On 6th August, 2011, Delhi Public School, Chandigarh proudly hosted Umang Utsav 2011, an Inter DPS Folk Dance Competition. Various teams from North Zone – I participated in the event.
Mr. Chanchal Singh,DEO, Chandigarh Administration graced the occasion as Guest of Honour. He lauded the efforts of students for putting up such a spectacular show. Mr. Chanchal Singh appreciated the efforts of DPS Schools. He said that with the introduction ofCCE, such cultural activities play a great role in the school curriculum.
The competition was adjudged by renowned personalities from the field of dance, Ms. Suchitra Mitra, a renowned Bharat Natyam exponent and Dr. Jaswinder Kaur, HOD Dance,Govt.College for Girls, Sector 11,Chandigarh. The occasion was also graced by Ms. Bittu Sandhu, Director, Strides.
The programme commenced with the ceremonial lighting of the lamp. The honoured guests, dignitaries and participating teams were accorded a warm welcome by the Principal, Ms. Reema Dewan. She expressed her pleasure for the opportunity to host such a grand event.
The afternoon was a wonderful blend of dance and rhythm. Each team journeyed to various parts ofIndiapresenting the folk dance of a region. The event endeavoured to instill among children a sense of pride in the great Indian culture and heritage. The scintillating performances put up by the teams held the audience spellbound.
DPS Chandigarh was adjudged the winner and DPS Amritsar bagged the runners-up position. The event drew to a close with a vote of thanks followed by the prize distribution ceremony.
