Earth Day, April 22nd, marks the anniversary of an environmental movement to protect mother Earth. ‘Skype in Classroom’ is one of the activities taken up by students of Delhi Public School, Chandigarh, under which a Skype Conference was organized with students of SMK Vivekananda School, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia to mark Earth Day. There was an exchange programme of students between these schools last year. Through this Skype Project, students of both schools of interacted and discussed ways to reduce or stop the use of plastic.
Students emphasized on the fact that plastic pollution involves the accumulation of plastic products in our surrounding all over the world which adversely affects the environment. They identified a few ways to reduce the use of plastic and decided to spread awareness in the community. They promised to discourage their parents and acquaintances against use of plastic products, keeping in mind their detrimental effect on the environment.
At the end of the fruitful session students and teachers pledged to reduce the use of plastic products. Cloth bags were distributed by Yuvasatta, an NGO for students, to promote the use of cloth bags instead of plastic bags. The Principal, Ms Reema Dewan, appreciated the tips given by both schools to reduce the use of plastic in our everyday life. She also encouraged students to have more skype sessions with collaborative projects.
